In the Cottage Garden - April 2012

by -

Here is the little patch of earth that will become my kitchen garden! I am very excited. I think it all stems back to when my Mum used to grow all her own and I remember being sent up to the allotment to dig up some potatoes or grab a couple of courgettes and cut off a head of cauliflower ........ And then literally eating them. The taste and smells of the freshness of these foods stays with me now, the sweetness of freshly dug up new potatoes is like no other taste. Imagine all the nutritional goodness just flooding through our body, providing us with those wonderful earthy minerals and vitamins, with no chemicals or pesticides to interfere. Well I am going to recreate that memory again and I will appreciate any readers help with this as I don my 'L' plates and take on the challenge.

April is a time for growth, for new starts, for getting rid of the old to make space for the new, for embracing life and thanking the universe for what we have. Some of us detox and clean out our sluggish bodies, some of us spring clean, others take on a new exercise regime ..... For me this month, I am going to take care of myself and set myself the challenge of daily exercise, whether it be the gym, yoga or a walk in the fresh air. It is my way of embracing the season of change and spring into the lighter nights and sunnier days. What will your spring bring you?
