My experience as a Nutritional Therapist has proven time and again that we are all unique and that our bodies often have a number of reasons for being unable to lose weight or maintain weight loss.

The Weight Loss Programme uses Metabolic Balance® a unique science-based food plan that is based on your blood test results and your health assessment.
It is an individual plan calculated for you using your unique body measurements, health analysis and blood values. You will get a ‘food prescription’ that is nutritionally balanced and will re-set your metabolism.
” When insulin levels are too high, our bodies find it difficult to release fat stores for energy. If insulin levels are kept low, then you naturally create more glucagon which signals the liver to burn fat for energy. The metabolic Balance® programme will re-establish your ability to fat-burn using lipolysis (night-time fat burning) so you literally lose weight whilst you are sleeping. “

Samantha came to see me in 2015 just before Christmas, feeling frustrated with her weight gain and inability to shift the extra pounds. When she started the programme, she weighed 80 kgs. – yet she was fit, running 5K a few times a week but everything she tried left her frustrated and tired! She signed up for her 90 Day Weight Loss Challenge and within 3 months she had lost 2 stone, her energy levels were super high, and she felt and looked amazing. She got through Christmas with the advice and ideas Andrea was able to give her and continued her journey.
Her metabolic age was 62 in the December when she started the programme, her weight was 80 kg (brave lady) and by April she was 2 stone lighter and weighed 65kg. She lost 11 kgs. of fat mass and now 3 years on Sam has maintained her weight, her fat loss and her muscle mass and is very proud that at 51 years she runs half marathons and has the body of a 36-year-old!
For her the principles of this programme have enabled her to focus on the foods she needs to eat, to plan, control and maintain her fitness and health.
With my support and education, she has tweaked the programme over time to fit her lifestyle and her work commitments and it works brilliantly for her.
How does the programme work?
The programme promotes hormone balance by regulating the amount of insulin your body produces; fat-burning and weight loss occur as a side effect of improved overall health. Other improvements that are regularly reported include increased energy, better sleep and digestion, and a heightened feeling of well-being.
What happens at the first appointment?
We’ll take a detailed look at your medical and general health history. In addition, we will establish any underlying reasons for your weight gain and /or your inability to lose weight. Your personal nutrition plan will then provide the foods recommended for you to lose weight and keep it off. Regular support is provided and is vital to help you achieve your health and weight loss goals.
Do you feel hungry?
You will suffer with feelings of hunger in the first few days whilst you are adjusting to the new portion sizes. Drinking plenty of water and adjusting your activities to keep you occupied will help with the hunger in the first week of the programme.
How long do you stay on the programme?
The plan is a food list based on your current needs, but it is yours for life. The principles of the programme, such as leaving 5 hours between each meal, avoiding caffeine in between meals and other basic rules means that this can be adapted to become a ‘way of life.’
How much weight will I lose?
Generally speaking, this is all dependent upon the individual but those with more fat to lose will often see 10-14 lbs of fat loss in the first 2 weeks of the plan slowing down to a more comfortable and gradual weight loss of 2-4 lbs. a week. If you have less weight to lose the loss will be slower.
Are there meal replacements or supplements involved?
This is not a fad diet or a gimmick. It is a sound scientific programme based on over 25 years of research into the effects that different foods have on the body. You will eat 3 nutritionally balanced meals each day made from the foods on your personal food list. There may be supplements recommended to help you regain health and restore balance in the initial stages of the programme, but this is entirely optional.
How do I get the blood test done?
You will be given a full blood test pack which you can take along to any GP practice and ask for a blood draw service. Alternatively, I can provide you with a list of private phlebotomy services which often speeds up the process. A fasting blood test is recommended to get the most accurate results.
Is this based on the blood Type diet?
This programme should not be confused with the blood type diet or the metabolic diet – these are not involved. The Metabolic Balance plan is based on the results of a detailed blood test which are then analysed and provide the basis to the foods you are recommended to eat to restore your metabolism.
I’ve got Diabetes type 2 – is this programme safe for me to follow?
Absolutely! Metabolic Balance is designed to re-establish and restore insulin levels and insulin production. Therefore, if you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or Diabetes T2, you, must tell your GP and ask them to regularly check your blood glucose levels as your medications may require adjustment.
Does this help with menopausal symptoms like hot flushes and weight gain around the middle?
The programme is designed to balance hormone levels, and this includes female hormones involved during the menopause. By regulating the main hormone insulin, it has a knock-on effect on other hormones such as thyroid and sex hormones.
Do I need to count calories?
No. You do not need to look at calories at all. The food plan has been based on a nutritionally balanced plate of foods providing you with all the necessary main nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats. You’ll be able to eat delicious meals that will balance your metabolism and help you feel great.
I’ve tried everything, why should this programme work?
The reason this works is because we base the foods on your current blood test readings and your health history. For example, you may have underlying stress or inflammation in which case, foods for reducing inflammation and helping to support stress hormones will be added to your food list. This makes the programme exclusively for you. It won’t work for your partner or friend as their bloods and health analysis will be different.
What do I do next?
The next step in the process is to book a consultation to see me and get your health check done, blood test issued and answer any queries you may have before you start.
